Halloween weekend I had the opportunity to attend Jet City Comic Show in Tacoma. It's a great event, a smaller convention, but no less awesome. David brought his big Lego build for An Altered Fate and we had a great time meeting new readers - and handing out candy, of course.
Cosplay is one of the best parts of any comic con. It's people watching at its finest. Deadpool stopped by for a quick chat - he even carried his own music. Good times.
My booth, with books, handouts, and yes, lots of candy. I don't mess around, people.
These crazy kids came to hang out with me.
My oldest made his own Predator costume and had SO much fun walking around the con. He made and painted a latex mask, and made the armor out of floor mats and cardboard. It was pretty legit. Even this other Predator thought so :).
I spent last weekend at O Comic Con in Omaha. It was a whirlwind of an experience, meeting my publisher in person, hanging out at the con, speaking on an author panel about writing fantasy novels, and meeting lots of readers. My face still kind of hurts from smiling.
Overall, it was fantastic. Comic conventions are so much fun, and I love how they have morphed into these crazy pop culture/geek culture phenomenons. There were anime fans, Star Trek fans, sci-fi fans, fantasy fans, comic fans and everything in between.
Here I am hanging out at our lovely Realmwalker Publishing booth.
My cool stuff. Of course I brought Lego.
Someone (I'm looking at you, James) thought it would be funny to have me arrested by Boba Fett. I offered to double his bounty to let me go, but he wasn't having it. They even locked me up for a while, but eventually I was able to buy my freedom. Those bounty hunters are all about the credits, after all.
This guy had an INCREDIBLE Predator costume. It's hard to see the scale, but he was huge. The next day I stopped by his booth and chatted with him for a while. My oldest son (who is 10) is making a Predator costume and this cosplayer gave me a lot of great ideas to pass on. We have some new materials to experiment with around here. I think I should thank him, but the mess makes me a bit unsure...
There were lots of other great costumes. KISS was there, apparently (these guys were a lot of fun), and then I was almost attacked by a Creeper. Hazards of the job, and all.
Finally, we have the Throne of Games. Clever, no?
All in all, a fun time and it will be great to do more of these as time goes on.
